In today’s age, social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram make it so easy to find the best places to eat. I headed straight to social media when making my bucket list of restaurants to visit in Amsterdam. Today, I’m sharing 5 restaurants that consistently popped up on my feed, along with my honest review of each.
1. Fabel Friet
What I Ordered: truffle Mayonnaise and Parmesan fries
My Rating: 9/10
Fabel Friet takes great pride in their Dutch fries, sourcing potatoes directly from the Netherlands and meticulously preparing them to become the perfect fries they are. Each day, these potatoes are freshly cut and double-fried upon order.
The fries themselves were cooked to perfection with pillowy inside and crispy outside. The addition of truffle mayo and parmesan elevated the fries, adding a luxurious taste.

2. Pancake Bakery
What I Ordered: Bacon Cheese Mushroom Pancake
My Rating: 9.5/10
Opened in 1973, the Pancake bakery has definitely put its name on the map. They serve traditional and delicious Dutch pancakes using their original recipe. Nestled in a historic building, the entire restaurant gives such a cozy feel, making it ideal for a morning meal.
I absolutely love savory pancakes. This savory pancake reminded me a lot of the Japanese savory pancake, okonomiyaki. The portions were incredibly big and the bacon was cooked perfectly. If the pancakes weren’t so huge, I would have ordered additional savory combinations and perhaps a sweet one!

3. Van Wonderen Stroopwafel
What I Ordered: Plain Stroopwafel
My Rating: 10/10
There’s no question that Van Wonderen serves the best stroopwafels in the world. The waffles were fresh and crunchy while the caramel was smooth and hot. During our trip, we ordered from other stands and none of them came close to Van Wonderen Stroopwafel.
I ordered a plain one without toppings to experience its pure, authentic taste. I also ordered a container full of pre-made stroopwafels with all sorts of toppings on them. Taking the freshness out of consideration, the chocolate toppings added a different flavor that I didn’t feel complements the stroopwafel.
For the true stroopwafel experience, I recommend sticking to the classic. Honestly, there’s nothing I would change about the plain version – a true champion deserving of its perfect score.

4. Winkel 43‘s Apple pie
What I Ordered: Dutch Apple Pie
My Rating: 8/10
Winkel 43 is a coffee shop that’s popular with both locals and tourists. With a lot of items on their menu, there are a variety of things to enjoy, the most popular, however, is their world famous apple pie.
Their apple pie was very tasty. It was honestly the perfect balance of sweetness and the crust was perfect. However, the hype surrounding it (having heard reviews for months) set the bar incredibly high. While it was very delicious, it wasn’t the life-changing experience some make it out to be. That said, if I found myself back in Amsterdam, I wouldn’t hesitate to revisit Winkel 43, but perhaps with slightly more tempered expectations.

5. Louren‘s Crookie
What I ordered: the Crookie
My Rating: 7/10
The Crookie has been making waves on social media lately, and it’s not hard to see why. This dessert combines a cookie and a croissant into one delicious treat. When I spotted a tray cooling off in the window of Louren’s Bakery, I couldn’t resist.
The dessert was really tasty and chocolatey. It’s worth noting that this is definitely a dessert for soft cookie lovers, not crunchy because the dough is super gooey, despite it being wrapped in a flaky croissant.
I thoroughly enjoyed every bite of it. However, it wasn’t until afterward that I noticed the effects of its sweetness, leaving me feeling quite heavy. While I do recommend this dessert, I think it is best shared.
