96 hours in Okinawa

Okinawa is a gorgeous island in Japan’s archipelago that has such beautiful beaches, amazing culture, and a rich history, much different from mainland Japan. If you are island hopping around Japan and only have 96 hours in Okinawa, here is how I recommend you tackle the best attractions.

Getting There

Upon arriving at Naha International Airport, taking a taxi is the quickest way to get to your destination. Fares are metered, so the cost will depend on your final destination. While taxis are the quickest option, they are the most expensive. Renting a car would be the most cost effective but convenient option.

Where To Stay In Okinawa

Where you choose to stay will completely dictate the experience you have.

If you want exciting nightlife with lots to do around you, stay in Naha, the capital of the island.

If you want a quiet and relaxed, resort vibe near all the beautiful beaches, stay in areas like Yomitan or Onna.

If you want the perfect balance of both, stay in Chatan, where there is lots to do with beautiful beaches all around.

Take a visit to Ryukyu Mura, the ultimate theme park that showcases Okinawa’s raw, authentic culture. This is a must-visit attraction that immerses you into the daily life of the Ryukyu people. You’ll get the opportunity to wear traditional Okinawan clothing, eat traditional Okinawan food, listen and watch traditional Okinawan musical performances and a lot more!

Afterwards, visit Cape Manza, to see Okinawa’s natural beauty. This is a well known attraction due to its resemblance to an elephant trunk.

Pro Tip: While taxis are convenient, they can be expensive in Okinawa. Consider sharing a taxi with other travelers heading in the same direction, or booking a private transfer in advance, which may be a more cost-effective option, especially for a longer trip like this.
