First Impressions

My very first impression was that it was smaller than I expected. Not that it is small, I just expected it to be bigger. My sense of comfort did come from knowing that it will likely comply with most international airlines’ luggage policies.

Along with the suitcase, I received a laundry bag, two shoe bags, a sponge for surface scuffs, and a vegan leather luggage tag.

Size and Weight Considerations

On one side, there’s a spacious packing compartment ideal for clothes and larger items, and a smaller compartment on the other side for smaller essentials. A central mesh compartment with a zipper adds extra storage options, perfect for toiletries or electronics. Inside, soft lining protects delicate items, while compression straps help secure belongings and maximize packing space.

Durability and Material

After multiple flights, I can attest to the durability of the suitcase, although it never returned in flawless shape. Made from a polycarbonate shell, it strikes a balance between toughness and a sleek, non-bulky appearance. The addition of aluminum corner guards enhances its durability further, providing extra protection, though it takes most of the impact and wear from transit.

Functionality Testing

Handles and Wheels

The handles and wheels of this suitcase are incredibly smooth and sturdy, regardless of how heavy my luggage is. The handle provides a strong grip, ensuring ease of maneuverability. The spinner wheel system is truly exceptional — these double wheels offer remarkably smooth 360-degree rotation. They effortlessly glide over any surface, from the sleek floors of airports to the challenging cobblestone streets of Amsterdam. I never had to worry about a wheel getting stuck or coming loose, even on uneven terrain.

Compartments and Organization

The trunk has one large compartment on one side and a smaller compartment on the other. My only complaint about the functionality of these compartments is that because they are different sizes, they tend to topple over when opened and don’t lie flat on the ground. I typically have to lean my suitcase against a wall when opening it for use.

Security Features

It comes with two TSA-approved security locks, which provide peace of mind during my travels. I particularly love that it doesn’t have zippers, offering enhanced security to prevent theft.

Aesthetic Appeal

The aesthetic design of this suitcase always earns a perfect 10/10 from me. Every time I travel, I receive compliments on its stylish appearance and high-quality look. Despite the scratches and dents it has accumulated from my adventures, I still walk through airports with style. The color options — Silver, Obsidian, and my personal favorite, Champagne — add to its appeal.

Value for Money

At $455, the Monos Hybrid falls into the mid-range price point for luggage. While it might not be the most budget-friendly option, the quality materials, thoughtful design, and functional features make it a solid investment for frequent travelers who value style and organization. This is a great investment for those who will get good use of of the luggage and plan to use it for a long, long time. Monos also has a limited lifetime warranty and offers a 100-day trial (as long as you haven’t traveled with it yet).
