In Aruba, the sun is strong, and the wind is windy! Because of its distinct differences from other Caribbean islands, Aruba requires a specific packing list. Here’s my Ultimate Packing List for Aruba to help you make the most of your vacation!
Things To Know:
- Do not allow yourself to think “I can buy that in Aruba.” Things can be expensive on the island, so it’s always better to bring everything you can. Whether it’s toiletries, sunscreen, or a hat, think ahead and pack wisely.
- The weather in Aruba is pretty consistent year-round. It is below the hurricane belt so you don’t risk horrible weather during your visit, making it an ideal destination to visit anytime!
- The heat is Real. Aruba is incredibly hot and sunny. Thankfully, the winds keep things a bit more bearable. But don’t let that fool you—it’s still important to stay hydrated and protected from the sun!
The Ultimate Packing List for Aruba
Essential Documents
Passport
Like any foreign country, you will need a passport to enter. Note that Aruba is a country that requires 6 months of validity before its expiration date.
Visa
U.S Citizens are not required to have a visa when entering Aruba. Be sure to review your country’s requirements before planning your visit.
Embarkation and Disembarkation Card
This is an immigration card for entry into Aruba. I highly suggest completing it online ahead of time to avoid delays. It costs $20 per person and is valid for the entire calendar year. (Note: It will be a lot easier to do this online before you arrive rather than at the airport!)

Cash
The currency of Aruba is the Aruban Floren, but the U.S. dollar is also widely accepted. Be sure to carry around cash for tips!

What to Wear
Bathing Suits
I recommend packing multiple, in case your hotel or Airbnb doesn’t have laundry service (though there are laundromats out in town). Don’t forget your cover-up!
Hat with a Chin Strap
…or any other head gear you can secure. As mentioned before, it is very windy in Aruba so you don’t want to risk losing extra protection from the sun! And don’t think you can get away without a hat, the sun is intense! I LOVED this one while I was there.
Daywear
Your day-to-day will likely consist of casual, lightweight clothing. Pack shorts, t-shirts, tank tops, sun dresses and anything flowy. Be mindful not to overpack!
Evening Wear
Aruba is a romantic destination with tons of beautiful restaurants, perfect for date night. Pack a nice outfit for your nights out!
Shoes
Think comfort and style. A pair of sturdy sandals for beach days, along with some dressier options for dining out, will cover all your needs.

For the Beach
Reef Safe Sunscreen
Sunscreen is a must, but reef-safe sunscreen is a must-have to protect Aruba’s delicate coral reefs. Look for SPF 50 or higher to keep your skin protected. Don’t count on buying it on the island unless you are ok with paying inflated prices for it! I recommend this one.
Snorkeling Gear
There are many gorgeous snorkeling spots in Aruba so consider bringing your gear if you have enough space in your luggage. If not, you can always rent them on the island.
Towels
Most resorts, hotels, and Airbnbs provide towels for you to use. I generally prefer to use my own oversized towel to relax on the beach, aside from the one I use to dry off with.
Collapsible cooler
Optional, but handy for your beach days! If you’re planning on spending whole days at the beach, it’s handy to have a small cooler to keep drinks and snacks cool. Stock up at the local supermarket and pack it with fresh fruit, sandwiches, and ice.
Waterproof phone case
Capture footage of the marine life on your phone with this waterproof phone case! Take advantage of the crystal clear waters. Especially if you go snorkeling!
Toiletries
Everyday Use Items
Pack the basics like your toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and whatever else you use to freshen up everyday.
Makeup
Keep it light; you’ll likely sweat it off throughout the day. Tinted moisturizer and concealer were my go-to on the island.

Electronics
Camera
So you can take the most gorgeous pictures while you are in Aruba!
Chargers
Don’t forget to bring the chargers for all your devices!
Travel Adapter
If you’re coming from outside the U.S., check if you need an adapter. Aruba uses the same voltage and plug type as the U.S., so U.S. travelers won’t need a converter.

Things I Wish I Brought
Reusable bags
The country does not use plastic bags so when we went grocery shopping, we had to put all of our groceries in boxes
Laundry bag
Normally, I use grocery bags to keep my dirty clothes separated in my suitcase. Because Aruba doesn’t use grocery bags, I wasn’t able to.
Bug repellent
I completely underestimated the amount of bugs there were on the island. Sometimes the wind is strong enough to keep them away but isn’t always effective. Buy lotion instead of spray, like this one, to keep the wind from blowing it in every direction.
Water Bottle
The tap water in Aruba is incredibly clean and safe to drink. Instead of buying water every day, bring an insulated water bottle to refill throughout the day and stay hydrated.
Reusable straws
Aruba’s ban on plastic straws means you’ll get paper straws everywhere. If you’re not a fan of them (like me), pack a couple of these reusable straws to avoid the headache.
